Summer is definitely a time for fun, but also a great time to start a home improvement project! Since the weather is nicer, you have better advantage to work on the exterior or take to your landscape. Get the kids involved and make it a family adventure! Ready to raise the value on your home and learn some new tricks? Here are some great ideas to get you ready to take on new summer home improvement projects!
#1. Clean All Exterior Walkways
When is the last time you pressure-washed your drive or deck? If the answer is too embarrassing to state, it might be time! Take stock of all the paved paths, deck areas, patio and porch areas to get a sense of what is needed. Use a pressure washer on all the concrete, paver stones, brick paths, and deck. Be sure to use a proper PSI level so that you aren’t doing any damage. Water pressure can really be powerful. You won’t believe how fun and rewarding this activity can be!
#2. Clean or Replace Your Siding
While you are in possession of a pressure washer, take a pass at your siding. Be careful not to use too much pressure. Note durability and age. If your siding is past its prime, it might be time to consider a replacement. New siding can really add value to your home!
#3. Drain the Water Heater
It’s good to drain your water heater now and then. This simple task will get more hot water flowing and clear the sediment. This is not your typical Summer home improvement projects, but it’s good to do this at least once a year and twice if you have hard water. Here is a handy video to help you learn why it’s important and how to do it.
#4. Renew Your Entryway
Give your home’s curb appeal a boost with a fresh coat of paint on all your doors and doorways. Warped and weathered entry doors not only look bad, but will not perform as well, annoying you every time you enter and exit. Consider changing out the lock, handle, or whole door if needed. There are so many modern designs today that will impress you and all that pass by!
#5. Landscape the Yard
We are not talking about simply planting flowers, but actually investing in your yard for added value to the property. Make a plan! Draw out how the yard looks now to get an idea of where you can improve it. Get suggestions and inspiration by doing research, talking to experts, and simply walking around a nice neighborhood. Not only will your house be easier to sell, but it will bring you joy whenever you arrive back home and see a beautiful yard!
#6. Invest in Ceiling Fans
Improve your air circulation and energy efficiency by adding fans and/or upgrading existing fans. Ditch the old, outdated looking fans! Today’s designs are built for functionality, as well as modern ascetics. Add fans to bedrooms for a more comfortable sleep.
Bottom Line
We are already filling up our schedules with vacations and fun social activities (finally)! Even if you only pick one project, it will be worth it! Upgrading and updating your house can be expensive and time-consuming. Keep timing and financial ability top of mind when planning a project. You don’t want it rushed or under-funded. Doing this will ensure that it’s not as stressful, but more rewarding! Happy Summer home improvement projects planning!
